Program & Catalog

As a student you are welcome to take the full 9.5 week diploma program or break the classes up to earn certificates in each.

The full program includes:

» Fish Class

» Bird Class

» Gamehead Class

» Lifesize/Rug class

» Business (runs concurrently with taxidermy classes).

Students may also take each class separately in any order* to obtain a certificate in each.


*We only ask you to take the Gamehead class before you take the Lifesize /Rug class as the skills needed are expanded upon from the Gamehead class.


In our Fish class, some of what you will learn:

» How to carve your fish bodies to achieve the best fit for your fish skin.

» How to paint your fish according to your customer photos using air brush techniques, proper paint mixing and layering not a “paint by number” formula.

» How to repair fins and re-create gills for the most lifelike look.


In the Bird class, some of the things you will learn:

» Specific migratory bird laws.

» How to properly carve your bird body and what to look for in the birds anatomy and coloring in order to create the best possible mount.

» Proper fleshing and degreasing techniques.

» How to create habitat and flight poses.


In the Gamehead Class, some of the things you will learn:

» Proper capeing techniques.

» Correct eye setting and modeling techniques.

» Proper horn and antler preparation.

» Use of clay and mache for mounting purposes.

» Proper carding and drying techniques for exact muscle detail.

» Correct measurement and templating procedures

» Panel and European mounts.

» Recognizing and sculpturing ears, feet and facial expressions


In the Lifesize/Rug class you will learn:

» Recognition of correct anatomy and configuration whether standing, running or jumping.

» Habitat selection and base building.

» Novelty mounting techniques, feet gun racks, scrimshaw and leatherwork.

» Rug making techniques.


All work done by a student for graduation is the property of the student*

* If a large rug provided by CITT is done as a class project it will remain the property of CITT.
